Universal Yums
I am a big fan of Advent Calendars and … candy. Years ago, I gave my son a one-year subscription to Universal Yums and we all loved it so when I saw they offered a Candy of the World Advent Calendar, I knew we had to have it. Now, it’s just a matter of waiting for December to arrive!
I ordered the Candy of the World Advent Calendar from Uncommon Goods, another favorite shopping destination. Tip: You can learn more about why I like Uncommon Goods in a dedicated post!
You order the boxes directly from Universal Yums and they have a variety of options (Yum Box, Yum Yum Box, and Super Yum Box) and you can send just one box or sign up for a 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month subscription. They also have a small selection of Country Boxes where you can choose a specific box. These are past boxes from the subscription and right now include United Kingdom, Scandanavia, Greece, Mexico, Italy, and South Korea but obviously change over time.

The premise of the boxes (which is also true in the Advent Calendar), is you are trying a variety of snacks and candy from around the world - probably things you wouldn’t try otherwise (although World Market does a decent job of carrying fun things to try). They always include an overview of the place and each item you’re trying. The fun part is the rating card they include! You can see in the Advent Calendar, each candy will be rated on your journey to select the Best Candy. This is a really fun thing to do with family or even a friend or special person who lives elsewhere. You can do each day together and compare notes over text, phone, or Zoom!
